How Do You Know If a Sports Injury Needs Imaging First?
Which sports injury signs point to imaging before rehab: no weight bearing, pain over the bone, numbness. When waiting a day or two is fine, and when it is not.
Rebuild before you return.
Sports injury and guided musculoskeletal rehabilitation, coached by our medical assistants.

Sound familiar?
A sprained ankle, a strained hamstring or a sore tendon can keep you from the activities you love, long after the first sharp pain fades.
Guided rehab is part of the rehab and recovery care at our sports medicine clinic. It rebuilds strength and control step by step.
The short answer
Sports injury rehabilitation is a guided exercise program that helps an injured area regain strength, control and range of motion before you return to activity. At Advanced Pain Solutions it begins with a functional evaluation that sets a baseline. Then come coached exercises in the clinic and exercises to do at home.
Exercises load the injured area a little at a time.
Strength, control and range of motion come back in steps.
The program comes before your return to your sport or activity.
Your baseline from the first evaluation gives later sessions something to measure against.
Conditions we treat
Guided rehab is also part of care here for hip pain, arthritis pain, elbow pain, foot and ankle pain, neuropathy, headaches and migraines, and whiplash.
Strength and control for stairs, squats and changes of direction.
Strength and control for reaching, lifting and overhead work.
Strength and range of motion around stiff or sore joints.
Core control and tolerance for sitting, lifting and long drives.
Exercises planned around spinal decompression and chiropractic care.
Mobility and strength work that respects an irritated nerve.
Advantages
In the clinic, our medical assistants coach your exercises and watch your form.
Rehab is often paired with spinal decompression and chiropractic care for disc pain.
Chiropractic care, spinal decompression, rehab and injections all happen in one clinic.
Compare your options
Your evaluation decides which option fits your injury.
| Option | What it involves | Often considered when | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rest alone | Stopping the activity until it feels better | A new, mild strain | Rest alone does not rebuild strength |
| Guided rehab | Coached exercises in the clinic and at home | Strength and control need rebuilding | Coached by our medical assistants |
| Chiropractic adjustments | A controlled, hands-on force to one joint at a time | Stiff, irritated spinal joints | Offered in the same clinic |
| Focused shockwave therapy | Acoustic pulses from a handheld applicator | Tendon pain that lingers | No incisions, needles or anesthesia |
| Surgery | An operation to repair the injured tissue | Tears and injuries other care cannot fix | We perform no surgery |

Totally satisfied with my treatment at Advanced Pain Solutions. Was a pretty good workout for the past few months but carried thru it and the results were worth it. The Doctors and associates were awesome and always friendly. Thanks so much for all you’ve done for me.

Get medical care first, before any rehab, for sudden, severe pain or a lot of swelling or bruising. The same goes for a leg, knee, ankle or foot you cannot put weight on.
Seek care right away, too, for a joint that will not move normally or extreme weakness in an arm or leg. A bone or joint that looks out of place needs the same.
Often, yes. The National Institutes of Health notes that many sports injuries can be treated at home. The steps are rest, ice, compression and raising the injured part, known as RICE.
Rehab is supervised by the clinic's medical staff or medical assistants, depending on the joint, muscle or therapy involved.
An injured area can lose strength and control, even after the pain eases. A rehab program with exercise rebuilds them before the full load of your sport comes back.
An acute injury happens suddenly, such as a fall, a blow or a twisted joint. An overuse injury builds slowly from the same motion done over and over, like tendinitis or a stress fracture.
Both can need rehab, and your functional evaluation helps show what the area needs now.
The National Institutes of Health lists several risk factors. They include not using the correct exercise technique, training too often or for too long, and raising the intensity too quickly.
Playing the same sport all year, running or jumping on hard surfaces and shoes without enough support add risk. So does a prior injury.
Wear loose, comfortable clothes you can move in, and athletic shoes. Shorts help when we work on a knee or hip, and a tank top helps for a shoulder. Bring any brace you already use, and any exercises another clinic gave you.
