Joint pain in Redmond, OR

When your joints decide how far you go.

Stiffness when you get up, soreness after a ride or a round, a joint that swells when you push it.

The short answer

Joint pain is discomfort in a joint, sometimes with swelling and warmth. The most common cause is arthritis, and bursitis, tendinitis, sprains and strains are others. An exam at our Redmond clinic shows which structures around the joint are involved. Care may combine regenerative medicine, the clinic's joint rejuvenation protocol and guided rehab.

How much is it holding you back?

Joint pain can be mild, showing up only after certain activities, or strong enough that small movements hurt. It can make a ride, a round of golf or a walk with the dog feel like more than it should.

Where does care begin?

We look at which joints hurt, what sets them off and how you move around them. What we find decides whether your plan includes regenerative medicine for joint pain and guided rehab.

What is going on

What joint pain is

A joint is where two bones meet, cushioned by cartilage and supported by ligaments, tendons and small fluid-filled sacs called bursae. Joint pain can come from wear in the cartilage, irritation in the tissue around it or an injury, and the joint may swell and feel warm.

What is actually happening

  1. Something wears or gets irritated

Cartilage thins, a tendon or bursa becomes inflamed, or a ligament is strained.

  2. The joint reacts

It can swell, stiffen and lose some of its range.

  3. Movement changes

You start favoring the joint, which shifts load onto the muscles and joints around it.

Who this usually affects

  • Riders, golfers and cyclists who load the same joints often
  • People with osteoarthritis in the knees, hips or hands
  • Anyone with an old sprain or strain that never fully settled

When it is something else

  • A joint that looks out of shape after an injury, which needs care right away
  • Joint pain with a fever, which can point to an infection
  • Pain in many joints during an illness, which needs a medical workup first
Note

Joint pain is rarely an emergency.

Rehab begins with a functional evaluation that sets your baseline, and later visits are compared with it.

Where it hurts: the joints

Why it happens

Why joints hurt

There are more than 100 types of arthritis, and other problems around a joint can feel much the same.

  1. Osteoarthritis

Arthritis is the most common cause of joint pain, and osteoarthritis is the wear type. The cartilage thins, so the joint can feel stiff after rest and sore after use.

  2. Inflammatory arthritis and gout

Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and gout inflame the joint itself, often with swelling, warmth and stiffness. They need a medical diagnosis and care alongside anything we offer.

  3. Bursitis around the joint

Bursae are small sacs that cushion the tissue around a joint. When one is inflamed, the area aches and feels sore to press, especially with repeated movement.

  4. Tendinitis

Tendons attach muscle to bone. Repeating the same movement at work or in sport can inflame one, so pain builds near a joint and flares with that motion.

  5. Sprains and strains

A sprain stretches or tears a ligament, and a strain injures a muscle or tendon. One that never healed well can keep a joint sore and unsteady.

How we treat it

Joint pain treatment for the joints you use most

Joint pain treatment here is built from what your exam finds in each painful joint. A plan may pair regenerative medicine with guided rehab, or follow the joint rejuvenation protocol, which combines several of the clinic's therapies in one sequenced plan.

The treatment floor where combined joint therapies are planned at Advanced Pain Solutions

01 · Regenerative first

Regenerative medicine

When your exam supports it, a plan can include regenerative injections such as PRP, made from your own blood.

About regenerative medicine
  1. 02PRP injections

Platelet-rich plasma is separated from one blood draw in the clinic's own centrifuge, then injected where the plan needs it.

  2. 03Joint rejuvenation protocol

A sequenced combination of modalities, including regenerative injections, focused shockwave and rehabilitation or retraining exercises, at a cadence that supports the body's natural ability to heal.

  3. 04Guided rehab

Strength and control around the joint, coached in the clinic by our medical assistants, with exercises you keep doing at home.

Regenerative therapies are not a cure and results vary. Some biologic products discussed here are not FDA approved for this use. Your provider will review options, risks and costs with you.

Questions

Common joint pain questions

Still unsure? Call (541) 923-6024, Monday to Thursday.

How to help joint pain and stiffness?

For mild joint pain, ice the joint for 15 to 20 minutes a few times a day, or use a heating pad or a warm shower to relax the muscles. Avoid the movements that make it worse. Pain relievers you can buy without a prescription, such as ibuprofen or naproxen, can help too.

Do I need a referral to see a bone and joint doctor?

Not at our clinic. You can book a visit at Advanced Pain Solutions without a referral, by phone or online. The team is two Doctors of Chiropractic and a family nurse practitioner, and your first visit covers your history and an exam of the joints that hurt.

Should I rest a painful joint or keep it moving?

Keep using it in ways that do not hurt, and rest it only from the movements that set it off. Guided rehab later builds on the movement you keep.

Is joint pain always arthritis?

No. Arthritis is the most common cause, yet joint pain can also come from a broken bone, an infection, a viral illness or conditions such as fibromyalgia or an underactive thyroid. That is why your history and an exam come before any plan.

Is there non-surgical treatment for joint pain?

Yes. Advanced Pain Solutions performs no surgery, so every option here is non-surgical. When joint damage is advanced, a surgeon can tell you whether a joint replacement makes sense.

What should I tell my provider about joint pain?

Which joints hurt, when the pain started, whether it followed an injury and what makes it better or worse. Mention any swelling, warmth, redness, morning stiffness or fever. That history, and a list of the medicines you take, guides the exam.

Are joint injections guided by ultrasound?

Yes. Every joint injection at our clinic is guided by ultrasound for precise placement.

How many visits does the joint rejuvenation protocol take?

Plans often range from 2 to 12 visits, depending on the condition of the joint, your activity level, your age and other factors.
